About the Badge

The Free Motion Quilting Badge invites members to step beyond straight lines and start moving fabric freely under the needle. It can feel awkward at first, like trying to pat your head, rub your stomach, and keep your stitches from doing interpretive dance. But with practice, free motion quilting becomes a creative way to add texture, movement, and personality to your quilts.

Badge Requirements

• Learn how to prepare your machine for free motion quilting, including feed dogs, presser foot, needle, thread, and tension basics.
• Make at least two small quilt sandwiches for practice.
• Practice at least three beginner-friendly motifs, such as loops, meanders, waves, pebbles, flowers, or simple echoed shapes.
• Sketch one or more designs on paper before stitching to understand the movement path.
• Complete a quilted sample, block, mini quilt, or project using at least one free motion quilting design.

Embroidered Patch

The embroidered Quiltbound badge is made with high-quality embroidery on a twill backing and measures 2" x 2".
