Welcome to Quiltbound
Megan FowlerShare
There’s a funny little thing that happens when you spend enough time quilting.
At first, you think you’re just here to make quilts.
You buy some fabric. You pick a pattern. You learn how to make your points behave, or at least behave enough. You start collecting rulers, rotary cutters, thread colors, and opinions about seam allowance that feel weirdly personal.
And then, somewhere along the way, quilting becomes more than a thing you do.
It becomes the reason you clear off the dining room table at 9:47 PM because you suddenly have an idea. It becomes the excuse to visit a fabric shop while you’re traveling. It becomes the thing you bring outside for photos, to picnics, to retreats, to your friend’s house, to the couch for emotional support.
That’s the heart of Quiltbound.
Quiltbound is for quilters who want to keep learning, keep making, and keep following the creative side quests that make this whole thing fun.
So, what is Quiltbound?
Quiltbound is an online home for modern quilters who like their creativity with a little adventure baked in.
It’s part quilt shop, part blog, part podcast, part badge club, and part “wait, can quilting count as a personality trait?” situation.
Around here, you’ll find quilt patterns, fabric, tutorials, creative inspiration, community events, podcast episodes, and the Quiltbound Badge Club, which is our online membership for quilters who want to earn badges while trying new things.
The whole idea is simple: quilting does not have to be about doing everything the “right” way, finishing everything quickly, or proving that you are a Very Serious Quilter.
It can be playful. Curious. A little nostalgic. A little outdoorsy. A little “I took the scenic route and somehow ended up with six new projects.”
Honestly, same.
What is the Quiltbound Badge Club?
The Quiltbound Badge Club is the membership side of Quiltbound.
Each month, members get a featured badge and a creative theme to explore. Some badges are skill-based, like trying free motion quilting, practicing Y-seams, or learning English Paper Piecing. Others are more experience-based, like having a quilting bee, taking a quilt outside for photos, or picnicking on a quilt.
The badges are the fun little souvenirs, but the real magic is in the earning.
Inside the membership, members get access to monthly badge content, tutorials, patterns, printables, community posts, virtual events, and the full archive of past badge resources. It’s designed to give you a reason to try something new without turning your hobby into homework.
Because truly, nobody needs their quilt project looking at them from the corner like it’s judging their life choices.
The Badge Club is here to make quilting feel more connected, more interesting, and more fun. It gives you a starting point when you’re not sure what to make next, a little nudge when you want to learn something new, and a community of quilters who understand why a tiny embroidered badge can be wildly motivating.
What about local Chapters?
Quiltbound also includes local Chapters.
Chapters are in-person groups hosted by participating quilt shops and fabric shops. They give members a way to connect locally, sew together, participate in badge activities, and build real-life quilting friendships.
There’s no complicated process for members to “join” a Chapter. You simply attend events at your local participating shop.
The online membership is still hosted separately, but Chapters make it easier for quilters to take the Quiltbound experience into their local community. It’s a way to gather around a shared project, a shared badge, or honestly, just a shared desire to leave the house and talk to another adult who understands fabric math.
A noble cause.
What you’ll find on the Quiltbound blog
The Quiltbound blog is where I’ll share tutorials, project ideas, quilting tips, badge inspiration, pattern spotlights, podcast show notes, and creative rabbit holes that deserve a little more room than an Instagram caption.
You’ll find posts that help you build your quilting skills, but also posts that remind you quilting can be lived with, traveled with, photographed, gifted, dragged outside, and made part of the everyday.
Some posts will be practical, like how to prep a quilt for a longarmer, how to choose a color palette, or how to get started with a new technique.
Some will be more idea-based, like ways to display your badges, how to host a quilting bee, or how to turn a finished quilt into an actual memory instead of just another folded thing in the closet.
And some will probably be me following a creative side quest because I saw a roadside fruit stand, a vintage motel sign, or a national park poster and suddenly needed to make it a quilt.
This is who we are now.
The Quiltbound shop
The Quiltbound shop is where you’ll find patterns, badges, stickers, apparel, fabric, bundles, quilt kits, and other creative goods for your quilting life.
The patterns are designed with a modern, nostalgic, slightly road-trip-loving spirit. Think bold shapes, playful themes, scenic detours, picnic blankets, thermoses, pennants, and the kind of projects that make you want to take your quilt somewhere beautiful when it’s finished.
Some projects are full quilt patterns. Some are smaller makes. Some are tied to badges inside the membership. The shop is meant to feel like a little trailhead for your next creative adventure.
Not in a dramatic “pack your bags and become a whole new person” way.
More like, “grab your rotary cutter, maybe a snack, and let’s see where this goes.”
The Quiltbound Podcast
The Quiltbound Podcast is another piece of the Quiltbound world.
It’s where we talk with quilters, artists, shop owners, historians, park lovers, makers, and creative people who have something interesting to share about quilting and the way it connects to our lives.
Some episodes are practical. Some are inspiring. Some are deeply nerdy in the best way.
The podcast started under the name The Quilt Scouts Podcast, so you may hear that name in older episodes. Going forward, it will live under the Quiltbound name, but the heart of the show is staying the same: thoughtful conversations, creative inspiration, and the occasional delightful rabbit hole.
Why the name Quiltbound?
Quiltbound feels like motion.
It feels like heading somewhere, even if you’re not entirely sure where the road is taking you yet. It has that road-trip energy of following the signs, taking the scenic route, stopping for snacks, and being open to the little detours that end up becoming the best part.
It also speaks to the way quilters are bound to this craft.
Bound by curiosity. Bound by fabric. Bound by the projects we can’t stop dreaming up. Bound by the friendships we make along the way.
And yes, there is also actual quilt binding involved.
I would apologize for the pun, but I fear this is simply who I am.
The vision for Quiltbound
My hope for Quiltbound is that it becomes a place where quilters feel invited to try, explore, learn, and connect without the pressure to do quilting perfectly.
There is already so much in the world telling us to be more efficient, more polished, more productive, more everything.
Quiltbound is a little permission slip to be curious instead.
To try the technique you’ve been avoiding.
To take your quilt outside for a photo.
To join the swap.
To finally use the fabric you’ve been saving for “someday.”
To earn a badge just because it sounds fun.
To make quilting feel like an adventure again, even if the adventure is happening at your kitchen table with a half-cold coffee nearby.
You’re not lost, you’re Quiltbound
If you’re new here, welcome.
I’m so glad you found your way to this little corner of the quilting internet.
Whether you’re here for patterns, badge challenges, podcast episodes, fabric, community, tutorials, or just a little creative spark, I hope Quiltbound feels like a place you can wander around and stay awhile.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.
You don’t need to finish every project before starting the next one.
You don’t need to be the kind of quilter who always knows where her seam ripper is.
You’re allowed to take the scenic route.
Around here, that’s kind of the whole point.
